Materials
Most cricket bats are carved from willow– this refers to natural fibrous wood. Every cricket manufacturer sees it as their responsibility to select the best woods for their products so they may ensure that their products are made with high-quality standards.
There are two types of willow woods:
- English Willow.
This type of willow refers to the soft and fibrous timber. Due to its high-performance effect in terms of striking a ball, it is mostly preferred by the majority of bat manufacturers.
- Indian Willow (Kashmir)
The Kashmir willow originally comes from India. It is usually used as a substitute for English Willow.
It is regarded to be 3x harder compared to the English willow but does not have the same performance effect.
According to the manufacturers, though it is sturdier, the players may not be able to experience the same “sweet spot” in terms of striking the ball. The Indian willow is of more of an affordable material compared to English willow.
For adult and professional cricket players, they prefer the English willow compared to the Indian type.
Just though keep in mind that regardless of the type of wood type used, it will still go wear and become more prone to breakages over time. The cricket bat is prone to be bruised, scarred, and dented due to the nature of the game due to the high intensity of impacts of the ball that hits the cricket bat.
